What is Sunamp Thermal Storage?

Thermal storage devices – otherwise known as heat batteries – store heat for later use, for heating either water or rooms in your home (space heating). Most Sunamp models will provide hot water, some will supply space heating, and two will supply both. To compare models, see the brochures at the end of this page.

The batteries contain a heat exchanger surrounded by a phase-change material (PCM), all contained within a polypropylene cell. They connect to a heat source, which could be your normal boiler, a heat pump, your electricity supply, or solar panels. The PCM changes from solid to liquid as it heats up, and the energy released during this process is stored in the form of heat.

Thanks to the insulation around the battery, the heat is stored for significantly longer than it would be in a standard hot water cylinder.

Depending on the heat sources available, Sunamp batteries can be an incredibly cost-effective way of heating your water or your home, as well as reducing your carbon footprint. For more information, please see our Thermal Storage FAQs.

Why choose Sunamp?

Simply put, Sunamp are the market leaders in heat battery technology. They have a range of products to suit your hot water and heating needs, and can work with other renewable technologies you may already be using. Sunamp thermal batteries are user-friendly, and quickly installed by our trained engineers. They’re ultra-compact, fitting in a cupboard, under your stairs, or wherever you have space for them. If you’re replacing a hot water cylinder, you’ll even free up some space in your home: they’re up to four times smaller than equivalent hot water cylinders. For peace of mind, they also come with 10-year warranties.

Is Sunamp Thermal Storage right for me?

Sunamp thermal batteries may be right for you if:

You have limited space, or want to save space over a cylinder

You want hot water instantly, rather than waiting for the immersion to kick in

You want to connect multiple heat or energy sources, such as a heat pump or solar PV panels

You’re concerned about health risks associated with standing water such as legionella (very little water is stored in the Sunamp battery)

You want to improve your home’s SAP, save on energy costs, and reduce your carbon footprint

As you can see, there are significant advantages to installing a Sunamp thermal storage device.
